The Kirchhoff-Institute of Physics (KIP) of the
Heidelberg University has been founded by merging
the former Institute for Applied Physics and the IHEP, the Institute of High Energy
Physics. Since October 2002 the new Institute resides in the first building of the
new physics complex in the Neuenheimer Feld.
The Institute ist part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy; it's main purpose
are research and teaching in the field of physics and information technology.
The research activites are focussed on
Biophysics (Exp I),
Complex Quantum Systems
(Exp II), Particle Physics (Exp III)
as well as Information Technology.
Studying Physics in Heidelberg offers a variety of lectures and lab courses with a broad range
of opportunities for specialization. Advanced undergraduate as well as graduate lectures are also given
in english language, e.g. within the
'Graduate School of Fundamental Physics'
of the Department of Physics and Astronomy, which was granted in the framework of the
"Excellence Initiative" of the German Federal and State Governments, and the Heidelberger
Graduate Days which are organized twice a year.
