Research & Teaching

Matej Bell University in Banská Bystrica was established by the fusion of Faculty of Education and Faculty of Economics on 1 July 1992. Currently the University comprises seven faculties: Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Political Sciences and International Affairs, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Law.
Department of Physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences
The Department of Physics is one of those oriented for pre-service training of teachers of physics. Undergraduates could study physics in combination with other natural science subjects (biology, chemistry, informatics, mathematics, technical education, environmental education). Randomly it can be combined with humane subjects (e.g. philosophy, foreign languages, etc.). The Department has its own laboratories serving for practical and experimental activities. In 1998 there was the Natural Science Centre of Information Technologies established at the premises of the Department. It is equipped with ten computer workplaces with modern experimental facilities utilising the computer support, multimedia and projection software, and being connected to internet. Besides educational process the Natural Science Centre of Information Technologies is intended for individual instruction, creation and editing students’ projects, using the technology devices and installed software. In 1999 there was also built up a spec
ial classroom intended for development, creation and presentation of interactive experiments of the so called “hands on” type, what is currently very trendy in connection with necessity to increase the natural science competencies of learners, but also the whole population.
