Research & Teaching

Research at the Department of Structure and Constituents of Matter of the University of Barcelona is divided in three areas: High Energy Physics, Atomic, Molecular and Nuclear Physics and Condensed Matter Physics, where about one hundred people do basic research in different areas of Physics, studying both their theoretical and experimental aspects.

Within the High Energy Physics Group, the experimental researchers develop detectors and their readout electronics for particle physics experiments. The theoretical physicists here work jointly with experimentalists in unraveling the fundamental structure of matter and forces in our universe.

Studying physics at the Physics Faculty of the University of Barcelona consists in both lectures and lab courses courses within a broad range of opportunities for specialization. There are also several Official European Higher Education Area (EHEA) master courses which are offered in the doctorate programs of the Physics School ("Facultat de Física").

Outreach

The High Energy Physics Group participates, among others, in the LHCb experiment at CERN. Committed with the transfer of knowledge to the society, the group is actively involved in its own outreach project "Discover Particle Physics with LHC", whose object is to get both Particle Physics and the LHC closer to the general public. In our web you will find teaching material, links and activities related with the LHC and Particle Physics.
