LHC exercises

The LHC experiment will start data taking in 2009. Though, we already can provide you events generated by a simulation that allows you a first glance at the ATLAS detector. For this purpose the educational software HYPATIA was written. It allows you to upload event files and identify particles yourself. HYPATIA was written in JAVA, so you need to the Java Runtime Environment installed (best to the latest version). The Programm and an introduction is available here http://web.phy.bg.ac.yu/~hypatia/.

Setting Up HYPATIA

For doing the Masterclass exercises, please copy the following package:

HYPATIA simplified Setup Version:  with exercises (setup with instruction for installation, recommended for Windows users

HYPATIA simplified Version:  with exercises (self-extracting archive, recommended for Windows users; also executable in Linux with Wine emulator)

HYPATIA simplified Version:  with exercises (zip-Archive for all systems, please unzip the whole folder and execute Simplified_Hypatia_2.3.jar)

After you copied the self-extracting archive to your desktop (or anywhere else on your pc), double-click on it to extract it. It will create a folder containing all the files. On Windows Systems with latest Java Runtime Environment, HYPATIA should launch automatically. If it does not, enter the SV2.3 - folder and double-click on the .jar file. If the latest Java Runtime Environment is installed, HYPATIA will start.
On Linux Machine with latest Java Runtime Environment, either download the zip version of Simplified_Hypatia_2.3 OR extract the .exe file with Wine and THEN type in the shell prompt at the SV2.3-folder:
java -jar Simplified_Hypatia_2.3.jar
